A Beautiful Gesture of Spreading Smiles

There is a saying, " If you see a person without smile, give him one of yours". I didn't actually realise the meaning of this till the time I experienced the beauty in spreading smiles. 
It was a sunny morning when I happened to travel from my hometown to my friend's place. I boarded a local bus, It was unfilled and yet to depart. Then I started looking around to kill time and I found this cute little family with a girl child of 15 years of age may be. Her father was setting up her luggage in the bus and her mother was holding the girl's hand. She kept explaining something to her daughter which I'm not sure of while her father took some money from his pocket and placed it in her wallet. When the bus was about to start, both the parents hugged her, the girl got into the bus and they bid their byes to each other. 
It isn't easy for a 15 year old to hide emotions and the girl started crying silently as the bus pulled ahead. Little did I know there was a 70 year old fruit vendor sitting in the bus observing all of this. 
When he saw the girl hiding her tears, he asked the girl to come sit beside him for which the girl said no. Then he took an apple from the basket, struggling to switch seats in the running bus, sat in the seat in front of the girl's and turned back to her. He offered the apple he brought and the girl was reluctant to take it. 
Later, he started telling the girl that he has a grand daughter whom he calls kutti, waits for him to come back home every evening. He told looking at his grand daughter's smile will wash away all the hardships he went through the day for which the girl smiled. Slowly the girl started answering his questions. She told she is going back to the boarding school after holidays and she is gonna miss her parents. The oldman kept telling different things to brighten up the girl's mood. Eventually, it became a conversation of smiles. 
When the girl has to get down the bus, the oldman packed some fruits from his basket and offered it to the girl which she took happily and went off. 
The oldman was happy that she is smiling. His eyes were contented.
I was a silent spectator of this beautiful gesture. 
These two people might or might not cross their paths in future. But today, the girl had a smile on her face because of him. The oldman might forget this but the girl will cherish this happy moment till long. 
You will never know what a random person in your life is going through. If at all you get a chance to put a smile on their face, just try putting in the littilest of effort. It will definitely brightenup their day. 

"Happiness lies in spreading smiles."

Nowadays it's very hard to Believe a person but in the story giving smile to a stranger is a big thing and a good thing
