A Girl Out In the Night
It was 8'o clock in the evening and Priya is still at the office working on a presentation she has to give the next day. She looked around to see if someone is there in the floor and all she found was empty cubicles and blank monitors. She realised it's been late and started finalising the presentation. In the rush, she heard something. The sound of someone's foot steps. She startled as she could hear the foot steps sounded nearing. She was thinking who it could be and suddenly someone stood behind her. It was the guard.
"When are you leaving madam? " he asked. She told she'll be leaving in some time and continued to work. "Leave before its too late. " said the guard and left off.
After some time she accidentally looked at her watch and realised she is gonna miss the last bus to her place if she don't rush now. She quickly packed her things, got out of the cubicle, rushed out of the office, ran towards the bus stop and found the bus has left already. She tried to book a cab but that didn't work. She was there waiting and suddenly a bike passed infront of her and stopped at a distance. The guy looked back, turned the vehicle around and started approaching her. Priya was trying to answer the questions in her mind on who the guy on the bike could be. He stopped right infront of her. It was her colleague who was returning from pub and he smells of alchohol. He was generous enough to ask her if he could drop her home. But priya didn't have had enough dare to get on his bike. It was scary. He was drunk and its late in the night. She sensed the worst and said that she'll walk back home and he drove off.
Priya thought it'd be safe to get to home asap and started walking. It is a straight road from her office to the place where she stays. The road barely had any vehicles on it and the only things that she could see is the flickering street lights, huge trees and the doomed sky. And then, she saw a shadow falling from behind. A fear started in her and she gathered enough courage to look back. It was a guy with his head phones on, walking behind. She continued walking and the shadow kept following. The fear in her began to increase as she walks forward. She remembered reading this somewhere that suggested to take as many turns as possible if you are walking alone and you feel like someone is following you. She took the next turn instead of heading straight to home. She turned back. The guy was still following. She kept taking turns and he kept following. She was now sure that the guy is following her and started to tremble inside. However, she gathered enough courage to turn around and ask him why he is following. She turned back and saw the guy entering into a house and closing the gate behind. There was a sigh of relief on Priya's face as she mistook him for following her.
She continued to walk as she was just 5mins away from her flat. The street was empty and at the end of the street there was a truck parked. As she walked close to the truck she could hear some voices. By whatever she could hear she found that they were drunk. She had to cross the truck to head to home and she realised there is no one else on the road except her and the two people at the truck. The fear started to rise again as she walked close to the truck and then, her phone rang at the top of its volume with her mother's call. The two people looked back at her as they heard the phone ring. Now she is even scared as they noticed her. She told her mom that she is walking back home from office and she is alone on the road and there are these unknown people who are drunk. Her mom suggested to be on phone as she walks past the truck. And suddenly the signals went off. Her mom tried to call back on her phone but it didn't connect. She kept trying but she couldn't reach Priya on phone. Her mother was worried and started to call her flatmates and neighbours around. They told Priya didn't reach home yet.
Fear surmounted her and she started thinking of the worse and suddenly her phone rang.
It was priya.
She answered the call and heard priya is safe back home. She felt like a thousand bucks.
For every parent in the world, nothing else is ever more peaceful than to hear that their daughter is safe back home.
But not to forget that it was a real roller coaster ride for Priya to come home alone at that time of the night. This priya could be you someday, or your sister, or your mother, or some random women out there.
Now this is a happily ended story. But there were many stories out there that ended terribly. Be it the recent #Priyankareddy or the scariest #Nirbhaya, they were all the stories of the girls who had dreams of their future. They were all the stories of parents who wished that their daughter will come back till the time they realised that they are bound to accept the fact that their daughters had been assaulted, molested, tortured and had a painful death that they couldn't ever even imagine of.
No girl ever would have thought of being a victim of a ruthless animal preying on her to feed its psychic thoughts. Even in the scariest dreams, no parent ever would have taught of her daughter pierced into pieces and burnt alive. No one deservers the trauma they go through when the truth is told out there in the world.
To all the girls out there, be able to help yourself by being extra careful. A suggestion of nothing will come to rescue in these situations except the way you chose to deal with it.
And to the boys and parents, make sure your girl is reaching home safe everyday. Be on the phone continuosly if she says she isn't feeling secured. Be the first one to react of you sense something is going wrong. Just with a little concern and acting on the spot,
you might save lives.
You might see them alive.
And you might not regret later.
